Parametric Sculptures

Algorithmic and computational metal sculpture for architectural projects across India

Parametric metal sculpture by FormForge — algorithmic computational design, India

FormForge is a parametric sculpture studio working at the intersection of computational design and metal fabrication. Founded by Abhinav Goyal — trained in architecture and digital design — the studio uses algorithmic and parametric modelling to develop forms that would be impossible to draw by hand: perforated façade panels with light-driven gradients, lattice sculpture grown from mathematical rules, complex sculptural geometries built from thousands of components.

Parametric design is a methodology, not a style. We use it where the problem demands it — sculptures driven by site conditions, façade panels responding to solar angle, modular installations scaling from one piece to thousands. The studio has applied parametric methods across 600 installations in stainless steel, corten, and brass.

Capabilities

Algorithmic form generation

Grasshopper, custom scripts, and generative geometry for sculpture and façade systems.

Parametric façade panels

Perforated metal screens, light-responsive panel arrays, and computational pattern systems.

Modular sculpture systems

Repeating units forming larger compositions — scalable from single pieces to atrium-spanning installations.

Site-responsive design

Forms generated from site data: sun path, sightlines, structural envelope, programmatic adjacency.

Applications of parametric design

Sculpture

Lobbies / plazas / public spaces

Standalone parametric sculpture for lobbies, plazas, and public spaces — forms generated from rules, not drawn by hand.

Façade systems

Building-integrated

Perforated and layered metal façade panels with computational pattern logic, often driven by solar angle or programmatic data.

Architectural screens

Interior / spatial

Interior dividers, light filters, and sculptural privacy screens — parametric geometry controlling light and view.

Furniture & functional art

Landscape / interior

Parametric benches, sculptural seating, and integrated landscape elements where function and form share the same geometry.

Frequently asked questions

What is parametric sculpture and how is it different from traditional sculpture?

Parametric sculpture uses algorithmic and computational design tools — rather than hand-drawing — to generate form. The shape is defined by rules and parameters: a lattice density that varies with distance from a centre point, a façade panel pattern driven by solar angle, a modular unit that tiles into a complex whole. Traditional sculpture fixes form by hand; parametric design generates it from logic.

Do you use Grasshopper / Rhino for parametric design?

Yes. The primary parametric design environment is Rhino with Grasshopper, supplemented by custom Python and C# scripts for specific computation tasks. Output is fed directly into the CNC pipeline — laser cutting, water-jet, or CNC forming — so parametric complexity does not add fabrication time proportionally.

Can parametric design be used for façade panels and architectural screens?

Yes — parametric façade panels and perforated metal screens are one of our most-requested applications. Panel perforation patterns, depth gradients, and module arrangements can be generated from site-specific data: solar path, sightline analysis, or programmatic intent. We have delivered these in stainless steel, corten, and aluminium.

Is parametric sculpture more expensive than traditional sculpture?

Not necessarily. Parametric design can reduce iteration cost — the model updates computationally rather than requiring a new physical study model for each change. Fabrication cost depends on material and CNC complexity, not on how the form was generated. For modular systems, per-unit cost often drops with repetition.

Can you generate parametric designs from site-specific data?

Yes. We have developed parametric sculpture from site sightlines, sun path data, structural envelope geometry, and programmatic circulation diagrams. Site-responsive design is one of the strongest arguments for parametric methods — the logic that drives the form is legible and defensible, which matters for institutional and public art briefs.

What materials work best for parametric sculpture?

Stainless steel, corten steel, and brass are the primary materials — all compatible with laser cutting and CNC forming, which is how parametric geometries are typically fabricated. Material selection follows the same criteria as any other commission: site exposure, finish intent, and scale.

What is the price range for a parametric sculpture commission?

Parametric sculpture costs range widely — a smaller interior piece and a monumental outdoor commission sit at very different price points. For reference cost ranges and what drives sculpture pricing, see our sculpture pricing guide.

Can I buy a parametric sculpture directly, or is everything commissioned?

Some smaller works are available as direct purchases through our shop. Most of the studio's output is bespoke — commissioned to a brief, a site, and a scale that can't be stocked. Visit our shop for available works, or start a conversation to commission a piece.

Commission a parametric sculpture
