The studio works primarily in corten steel — which develops a stable patina that complements green planting — and stainless steel for projects where reflectivity and brightness are part of the brief. Bronze, brass, and stone-and-metal compositions round out the material palette. What materials are best for outdoor garden sculpture in Indian climate?
Corten steel is the most maintenance-free option — it develops a protective patina and weathers honestly through monsoons without requiring treatment. 316 stainless steel is appropriate where reflectivity and brightness are part of the brief. Bronze is the material of institutional longevity, used where permanence is the primary brief.
Will outdoor sculpture rust, fade, or degrade over time?
Corten steel rusts intentionally — the patina stabilises and protects the steel beneath. 316 stainless steel is highly corrosion-resistant and requires only periodic cleaning. Bronze develops a verdigris patina over decades, which is considered a feature. We specify materials appropriate to each site's exposure and the client's maintenance expectations.
Do you design foundations and plinths for garden sculpture?
Yes. Foundation design is included in the commission — soil type, drainage, and wind exposure are assessed for each installation. Plinths can be integrated into the sculpture design or specified as separate civil work coordinated with the landscape or civil contractor.
Can sculpture be designed around existing landscape and planting?
Yes. Site-responsive design is the starting point for garden commissions — sightlines from the house, scale relative to mature planting, and material tone relative to the landscape palette are all part of the design brief. We typically ask for site photographs, planting plans, and a site visit before concept development.
Do you work with landscape architects on integrated commissions?
Yes. FormForge works alongside landscape architects as a specialist fabricator, taking direction from the landscape design intent and coordinating back into the project programme. We are comfortable with the drawing and specification conventions landscape practices use.
What is the typical timeline for a garden sculpture commission?
From brief to installation, most garden sculpture commissions take 12–16 weeks depending on scale and material. Larger landscape centrepieces or pieces with foundation engineering may take longer. We work to site handover programmes when coordinating with construction projects.
What is the price range for a garden sculpture?

Can I buy a garden sculpture directly, or is everything commissioned?
Some smaller works are available as direct purchases through our shop. Most of the studio's output is bespoke — commissioned to a brief, a site, and a scale that can't be stocked. Visit our shop for available works, or start a conversation to commission a piece.
